Join the AI Patient Crew: Apply here!
Why this project?
Many Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools never make it into daily clinical care. One key reason is that patients, the people who will actually use or benefit from these tools, are often not involved in their development.
We believe this needs to change. The AI Patient Crew gives patients a chance to actively help create better AI tools.
What is the AI Patient Crew?
The AI Patient Crew is a pilot project within the DataTools4Heart research consortium.
We are building a diverse group of trained (heart failure) patients who can:
- Share their experiences and opinions
- Provide their feedback on AI devices and products
- Make sure AI solutions meet real patient needs
Since we will provide training, no prior knowledge of AI is required. We will help you gain the knowledge and confidence you need to participate.
How does it work?
If selected, you will take part in three steps:
1️⃣ Self-paced e-learning (August–September)
You’ll begin with a flexible online course (approximately 4 hours) introducing you to the basics of Artificial Intelligence.
You can complete the course at your own pace and at a time that suits you best.
Please make sure to finish the e-learning before the live webinar on September 18th.
2️⃣ Live online webinar – September 18th
After completing the e-learning, you’ll join a 2-hour live Zoom webinar to explore AI in healthcare more deeply and understand the role of patients.
Two experts will share real-world examples of AI tools in healthcare and explain the importance of co-design with patients.
🗓 Date: September 18th
🕕 Time: 18:00–20:00 CET (Central European Time)
📍 Location: Online (Zoom)
Please mark this time in your calendar.
3️⃣ Two-day interactive workshop in Barcelona – October 1–2, 2025
You will travel to Barcelona to take part in a hands-on 2-day workshop:
- Day 1: Experts including clinicians, developers, and social scientists will explain co-design and present a real-life case from the DataTools4Heart
- Day 2: You will work on this case together with the team and share your views and contributions.
📍 Location: University of Barcelona (Spain)
We will assist with travel and accommodation arrangements.
✈️ Reasonable travel expenses are covered. Please note: travel insurance is not included.
Be part of a growing AI Patient Crew
If the pilot is successful, you may have the opportunity to stay involved in future AI projects as part of the expanding AI Patient Crew.
Who can join?
We are looking for patients who:
- Have experience with heart failure (currently or in the past)
- Are comfortable communicating in English, especially spoken English
- Have basic computer skills to follow the online training
- Are able to travel to Barcelona (reasonable travel & accommodation costs are covered)
- Are willing to share their experiences and opinions
No experience with AI is needed, but you’ll need to follow online training.
How to apply?
Please register before the deadline of July 18th via: https://forms.gle/9MHvuaWM683WzaeY7
Please note that out of the registrations we will select a small, diverse group of participants for this first pilot phase. You will receive more information if you are selected by mid-August.
